Please Help Us Keep Our Schools Safe

At Valley Unified, we are pleased and relieved that the health and safety protocols we've been practicing since the start of this 2020-2021 school year have, to date, resulted in zero cases of COVID-19 transmission in our buildings and classrooms.

Through mask-wearing, physical distancing, and frequent hand washing as well as contact tracing and working with community healthcare providers to secure COVID testing, we've been able to ensure our schools remain safe places for students and staff.

As we prepare to move from Remote Learning to Hybrid Learning on January 19, we want to continue guarding the health of our school communities.  In order to do so, we need your help.

For important information on how families and parents can help ensure an eventual, safe return to In-School Instruction for students and staff in February, please read the important guidance available at bit.ly/3pNWF7m or click on the image below.

In advance, thank you for your cooperation as well as your continued patience and understanding.

Update on Mediation Regarding the Proposed Valley Unified Regional School

On December 21, 2020, representatives from MSAD #27, MSAD #33, and the Madawaska School Department - the three partner school units in the Valley Unified Education Service Center - met with a mediator, former Maine Superior Court Justice, Ted Pierson, in an effort determine a path forward toward the formation of Regional School Unit (RSU) to operate the proposed Valley Unified Regional School.

Valley Unified and the three school units were notified by the Maine Department of Education (MDOE) in October 2020 that they needed to file a notice of intent to form a RSU with the MDOE and the State Board of Education by December 31 in order for the proposed school project to move forward.

According to statements from each school unit, the parties were unable to resolve differences concerning the site selection process for the proposed school and the matter of proportional voting under the terms of the Valley Unified Inter-local Agreement.

The MSAD #27 School Board of Directors released their mediation statement on December 22, 2020.  To read the MSAD #27 statement, go to bit.ly/3ojnekL or click on the image below.

The MSAD #33 School Board of Directors issued their statement on January 1, 2021.  To read the MSAD #33 mediation statement, got to bit.ly/2LrOLla or click on the image below.

The Madawaska School Committee issued its mediation statement on January 4, 2021.  To read the Madawaska School Committee statement, go to bit.ly/2MFcXBz or click on the image below.

At Valley Unified, we have not yet heard from the MDOE of the State Board of Education regarding the status of the proposed school project.  When we do, we will be certain to let you know.  Thank you for your continued interest in the Valley Unified Education Service Center and our efforts.
