Just Imagine!

Imagine it's April, 2024.  A mom, dad, and their 8th grader are reviewing the 2024-2025 Program of Studies from Valley Unified Regional Learning Center, a brand new comprehensive, integrated educational facility serving learners from the Madawaska School Department, MSAD #33, and MSAD #27.

They open to a section of the Program of Studies that describes the high school's Career Cluster Academies.  The 8th grader is interested in the Nursing field and is also considering serving as a medic in the Army.  He is interested in the Academy for Health and Public Service Studies.

He and his parents turn to the page of the Program of Studies that provides an overview of this academy so they can learn more.  To access what that boy and his parents might read five years from now, click here or on the image below.  Just imagine!

Check Out This New SELECTIVES Opportunity

Each year, a number of our high school learners pursue military service after graduation.  To help them make informed decisions concerning military service and the pursuit of military occupations/careers that align to post-service career and training opportunities in the civilian workforce, we have created a specialized learning opportunity, Introduction to U.S. Military Service and Occupations/Careers.

Learners will have to access to this opportunity in Fall, 2019 through the Valley Unified SELECTIVES Initiative.  Personalized learning and increased student choice lie at the heart of the SELECTIVES Initiative which is funded through our FEDES III grant.

Through this initiative, learning facilitators are working to develop and implement a host of elective Career and Post-Secondary Readiness blended learning opportunities identified as high interest in two surveys conducted with 9th-12th graders from the three high schools in the Valley Unified Regional Service Center.

In SELECTIVES blended learning courses, a significant portion of the learning content is available and delivered online; in-person, face-to-face interactions between learners and learning facilitators also occur on a regularly-scheduled basis.

Watch this Video Tour of a Modern School

Olathe West High School in Kansas opened in the fall of 2017.  It was designed using advanced architectural techniques to create an innovative and futuristic learning environment.  Teachers and students at Olathe West focus on the use of technology for teaching and learning, and the school features open, modern learning spaces that encourage efficiency and promote collaboration.

A centrally-located learning commons provides both gathering areas and learning spaces that connect to the entire building.  The school has four wings or communities where students attend classes and includes 21st century academies, a media center, a performing arts center, and two gymnasiums.

To watch a Summer 2017 Sneak Peek video tour conducted by the school principal, click here or on the image below.  Then, just imagine a video tour like this being prepared in the summer of 2024 to introduce the Upper St. John Valley to the proposed Valley Unified Regional Educational Facility.

Dream With Us!

At the Valley Unified Regional Service Center, when we think about the proposed Valley Unified Regional Educational Facility, we envision a modern, energy-efficient school with a unique, attractive, appealing exterior design.

We imagine an interior with open, flexible common areas and learning spaces filled with natural sunlight and featuring modern equipment and moveable furnishings.

Want to dream with us?  Click here or on the image below to see exterior and interior photos of modern schools.

Then, just imagine a school that looks like this, that is equipped like this, and that has learning spaces and common areas like these right here in the Upper St. John Valley!
